Antwikrom Health Center records rising cases of Hepatitis “B”

The Antwikrom health Center in the Sunyani Municipality is recording rising cases of hepatitis “B”, Dr Kwadwo Addai, a Medical Officer at the center has said.

Five out of every 100 people in the area test positive of the Hepatitis “’B”, Dr Addai told newsmen at Antwikrom, saying the facility also served residents at Benua-Nwanta, Atronie, Yawsae and Daadom.

“Considering the trend of cases it is likely that many people in the local communities have the virus”, he said and advised the people to go for medical checkup.

Dr Addai said Hepatitis “B’ could be spread through body fluids, and advised the people to avoid unprotected sex, and recommended the need for the National Health Insurance Scheme to cover hepatitis “B” test and vaccination.

He said because of the cost involved in testing and vaccination, many people in the local communities hide with, and spread the virus, and asked the NHIA to capture the cost
