The Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) at the weekend, graduated 512 students who underwent various programmes in degree and diploma at the university’s campus at Fiapre in the Sunyani West Municipality.

They comprise 268 undergraduates and 244 postgraduates.

More so, 800 fresh students were also admitted into the university for the 2021-2022 academic calendars.

Speaking at the 20th congregation and 30th matriculation ceremony held at Fiapre, Professor Daniels Obeng-Ofori, the President, said the CUCG was transforming itself, and harnessing the Catholic quality brand to become a globally competitive and student-centered teaching and learning institution.

“We are determined to become a scholarly research environment where creativity, innovation and service to the community are the hallmarks. Being a globally competitive university means provision of holistic education to make our staff and products versatile and competitive in the global market”, he said.

“As one of the leading private faith based tertiary institutions in Ghana, the CUCG must embrace and influence our responsibility of producing the next generation of men and women of knowledge and wisdom to drive national development through innovative teaching and learning methods”.

In this regard, Prof Obeng-Ofori indicated the CUCG was implementing excellent education processes and standards, committed to the use of international pedagogies in course delivery, ensuring industry integration, and carrying out research to create new knowledge.

These would promote innovation and creativity to enable students to achieve the right high-quality skillset and integrate them in leadership roles with society and industry.

“It is imperative that we continue to build a quality culture by implementing systematic academic quality improvement initiatives that will nurture a culture of continuous improvement and strengthen the teaching and learning experience of our students”, he said.

One of the core missions of the University, he explained, was to generate and disseminate knowledge through conducting good educational and research activities as well as generating innovative concepts in various areas of interest.

The CUCG is positioning itself as the preferred choice for Science, Technology, Engineering and Healthcare related education, Prof Obeng-Ofori stated, saying the faculty of Information and Communication Sciences & Technology (ICST) was being transformed into centre of academic and professional excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education.

“The Faculty is currently rebranding to the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS). Engineering and mathematical programmes will soon be mounted in this faculty”, he said.

He said the university would continue to develop innovative and demand-driven academic programmes to increase student numbers and also to meet the needs of industry and the national developmental agenda.

The Most Revered Mathew Kwasi Gyamfi, the Catholic Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese and Chairman of the Governing Council, CUCG, congratulated the graduates for the academic success, and called on parents and guardians to support them with seed money to start a business of their own.

“As the country recovers from COVID-19 with its economic downturns, parents and guardians must kindly support their graduates until they secure a job”, advised.
