Bono NRSA trains 100 “Pragyia” riders on road traffic regulations

About 100 tricycle (Pragya) riders in the Berekum Municipality have undergone a day’s training workshop on road safety and traffic regulations.

The Bono Regional office of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) organized the workshop, as part of its mandate to control road accidents and fatalities in the region.

They were also taken through the Road Traffic Act 2180, 2012, and as well as processes on acquiring riding license.

Mr Kwasi Agyenim Boateng, the Bono Region Director of the NRSA explained the training was to enlighten the participants on the LI 2180 so that they would not be found wanton.

He expressed concern about the rising cases of motor cycle and tricycle accidents in the region saying “we are also looking at reducing crashes and injuries involving motor and tricycle riders”.

Mr Boateng regretted that activities of many of the tricycle riders were causing nuisance on the road, hence the need to take them through the LI 2180 for them to understand the position of the law on their activities.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) J.K Banini, the Berekum Municipal Commander of the Motor Transport and Traffic Department Commander cautioned the ‘Pragya’ riders to comply with the road safety regulations saying the police would not spare careless riders.

Mr Daniel Owusu, a participant thanked the NRSA for the training saying the Pragyia activities had huge economic importance in the local communities.

He however expressed discomfort that minors were taken over the industry, and appealed to the police to clamp on them.

Mr Mohammed Shafiu, another participants called on the NRSA to continue and sustain the training to benefit more of the riders and bring sanity on the road.
