COVID-19: Rising decline of safety protocols in Bono Regional capital
There is gross disregard of COVID-19 health safety protocols in the Bono Regional capital, as traders, buyers and travellers flout governments restrictions on the pandemic.
This unpleasant situation has the potential to trigger the rapid spread viral disease in the capital.
The capital is experiencing rising decline of the use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers, and observance of social distancing and compulsory wearing of nose masks in public places and gatherings.
During a visit to the Sunyani Central District (CBD), Sky News sighted many traders and buyers were not wearing nose masks, while there were virtually no Veronica Buckets to aid hand washing with soap under running water infront of shops.
Social distancing at the Sunyani old market and other satellite markets in the capital was also absent.
Traders, shop owners, attendants and other residents told Sky News the disregard of the protocols among the populace could partly attributed to the drastic decline of education on the pandemic.
In a random interview, the traders noted many people had relax because education on the pandemic had gone down.
Mr Kwadwo Amanfro, a plumber expressed worry information flow on the COVID-19 was not forthcoming saying “you don’t hear or get any information about the COVID-19 nowadays. The media has also relax and this can trigger the spread of the disease”.
Mr. Alfred Pinkrah, a pharmacist said he was unhappy enforcement of the COVID-19 protocols in the capital and parts of the region had halted for some time now.
“At least about 10 of the 50 people who visit my shop don’t wear nose masks”, he said and appealed to the COVID-19 taskforce setup by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to reinforce the daily enforcement exercise to prevent possible spread of the pandemic.
“People look down on you whenever they find you wearing a nose mask”, Madam Diana Asomani, a trader indicated.
Some of the resident attributed the disregard of the health safety protocols partly to the unfounded myths and conspiracy theories surrounding the pandemic.
